Pesticides have long been connected with declining bee numbers. France has banned pesticides containing thiamethoxam because studies have shown a direct link between bee deaths and the use of this chemical.
Another study has shown that neonicotinoid pesticides also directly affect the health of bees. France, Germany and Italy are said to have banned this pesticide too.
It would probably be wise for South African countries to ban pesticides with these substances too.
